Kaihoahoa Whenua | Landscape Architect
Pouwhiri Matua | Senior Principal

In my career to date, I have been lucky to work with a wide range of client groups ranging from large government organisations to private developers, and charitable trusts. I have also had the privilege of working in a true co-design sense with mana whenua representatives and Māori artists on many projects. This deeply fulfilling work allows me to contribute to complex and layered landscapes to protect or express connections to known and unknown stories in a variety of ways.

As a landscape architect, I know that a 'site' is actually a 'place', with history, associations and conditions that have both tangible and intangible values. I understand that it's extremely important to acknowledge and respect these values in every project and that these values will enrich the project's aspirations and technical requirements. This interest, together with my commitment to technical expertise, allows my design work to be grounded in place and developed with technical rigour.

The ultimate goal, however, is about seeking beauty and simplicity in the outcome. Outcomes of this design approach can be seen in multiple built project outcomes that range from inner city streetscape and public realm design, and pedestrian and transport projects to memorial and cultural projects of national and international significance.

I am experienced with the skills, adaptability and experience to lead or be part of the team. I can add value at any stage of a project from the feasibility stage through concept generation and for construction documentation to construction phase monitoring of large, medium-sized or small projects.
