Last year, the inaugural Festival of Architecture was held in centres from Kaikohe in the north to Queenstown in the south. This year, the New Zealand Institute of Architects wants expand on their success, and have involved urban designers and landscape architects in the schedule of events.

The Festival runs from 14 – 23 September, and includes presentations, exhibitions, tours, and open studios and buildings. The public programme is curated by Jeremy Hansen, the former editor of Home and Paperboy magazines.

“The Festival of Architecture is a great opportunity to celebrate New Zealand’s built environment, and to think about the contribution good design can make to the country’s future,” Hansen said.

Our Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin offices are taking part in the Open Source Studio day on Saturday 22 September.

Additionally, Boffa Miskell’s Tauranga office is supporting the NZILA-sponsored events, and taking an active role in many exhibits and installations planned throughout the city, including Love Our Laneways.

In Christchurch, design leader Nik Kneale is hosting a guided tour through Victoria Square. As the lead landscape architect on the project, Nik will provide insight on the restoration of this iconic space.

Michael Hawes and John Potter from the Auckland office have both played a prominent role in the changing nature of Auckland’s city streets and public spaces. They join landscape architects from other local firms in hosting an NZILA-sponsored walking lecture through some of the city’s most vibrant spaces and places.

Our office in Dunedin serves as the starting point for the Dunedin Warehouse Precinct walk. Boffa Miskell consultants join a group of urbanists and design enthusiasts for an on-the-move discussion about the past, present and potential future of this part of the city.

All these events are free, but registration is suggested.
