We’re back on our bikes: Aotearoa Bike Challenge 2021

Five Boffa Miskell offices are competing in the challenge this year, and at the halfway point of this month-long event, the company’s cycling enthusiasts are leading by example.

The Auckland office is competing in the 50 – 199 staff category, and with 5,225 points is currently 4th in Auckland and 35th in the country. In the Auckland ‘Consultancy’ category we’re in 2nd place.

Landscape planner Oliver May is the competition’s Office Champion, and is leading from the front with a total of 1049 points — 650 of which are ‘encourager’ points. Cycling stalwarts Michael Hawes and John Potter lead the distance points, with 499 and 355 respectively.

Christchurch, Wellington and Waikato/Bay of Plenty are all competing in the 20 – 49 staff category.

In Christchurch, ecologist Scott Hooson is back for a third year as Office Champion, and well ahead in the points race with 553 of the office total 2045 points. The office is in 20th place in Christchurch and 59th place nationwide. In the Christchurch ‘Consultancy’ category we’re in 5th place.

Urban designer Miriam Moore and BIM specialist Martin Powell have contributed the majority of Wellington’s 1704 points with 376 and 368, respectively. The office sits at 22nd place among Wellington consultancies and 72nd place nationally.

For the combined Waikato/Bay of Plenty team, Aimee Hide from the finance team leads with 271 total points, while landscape architect Bryan Sanson leads in all riding categories and has a total of 179 points. The office has 765 points total, and sits at 6th place among local consultancies; 16th overall in the Bay of Plenty and 199th place nationally.

Dunedin competes in the 3 – 6 staff division and with 324 points sits at 1st place among Dunedin consultancies. Urban designer Kurt Cole and biosecurity consultant Brent Rohloff, with 188 and 104 points, respectively, are leading the way. The office is in 6th place locally and 155th place nationally.

In 2020, the cumulative effect of Boffa Miskell consultants making their weekday commute via pedal power equated to 1177kg of carbon dioxide that didn’t go into our atmosphere. Here’s hoping that 2021 will see a similar result.
