How GIS data can add value to policy documents
Parks in both Mangere-Otahuhu and Hibiscus and Bays were updated using GIS to add values for the parks based on park function such as informal recreation. A walking distance analysis was then performed for the parks to determine what percentage of the board population had access to parks with the various functions.
The GIS team made locational updates to the parks, mapped entrance locations, added the values for park function, performed walking distance analyses, and determined population numbers with access to parks based on the walking distances.
