How strong urban design principles add value to a project

The Tauriko Business Estate is a comprehensively planned industrial and commercial business land development of approximately 195 hectares developable area.
The growth area of the site is approximately 300 hectares. The site lies across the boundary of two local authorities, Tauranga City and Western Bay.
Boffa Miskell became involved in the project approximately 6 months after the initial planning work had commenced. At that point, basic feasibility studies had been completed which gave confidence to the client to go ahead with comprehensive land use and services planning. Boffa Miskell strongly influenced end outcomes through the preparation of an urban design plan that would deliver a high amenity industrial estate. This was of particular importance for the site because of its close interface with a developing residential area at Pyes Pa West, and also that the site is destined to become the main gateway to Tauranga City from Auckland and the Waikato.
The plan change is now operative and development of the site is well underway.
