Active transport modes provide vital link between residential suburbs and central Manukau.

The active mode upgrade of Barrowcliffe Bridge and Place Enhancement is a significant project within the Manukau area. Manukau has been identified by Eke Panuku as a transformed location; a location that can meet its significant future potential through an integrated, holistic and custodial approach to regeneration.

The project delivers a safe and inviting connection from the residential communities south of SH20 to central Manukau. Active transport modes of walking and cycling are prioritised, hand-in-hand with expressing the culture and spirit of the Manukau community. Barrowcliffe Bridge and Place plays a vital future connection linking existing and future communities to the Manukau centre with a focus on providing legible local connections to the community.

The street is densely planted with native vegetation that speaks to the local character whilst growing the urban ngahere (forest) in the Manukau area. Acting as a green corridor, the project will foster active transport modes that connect the Puhinui Stream and the surrounding open spaces with Manuaku and the Hayman Park.

Our designers led the multi-disciplinary consultant team to deliver the concept design for Resource Consent and developed the project through the detailed design phases for tendering purposes with the consultant and client team. Our designers continued to lead the consultant team in a technical observation capacity through the construction of the works completed in 2021.

Boffa Miskell led the multi-disciplinary design consultant team from investigation and concept design through to the detailed design completion, tendering and technical observation during construction.
