The courtyard features a large tree as a visual anchor, while large pots are arranged at the edges of the courtyard to frame the area and create an urban garden experience. A mix of shade-loving plants of different forms, textures and sizes provide visual interest. Deep greens to bluish grey hues of plants have been selected to compliment the warm tones of the architecture.
The living wall at the eastern façade offers a lush, vegetated backdrop to the space, reinforcing a warm atmosphere and helps create a unique outdoor garden room.
From the courtyard, looking up at the western edge of the void, planter boxes with panels of vegetation climb up the levels. This planted façade will be visible from both inside the atrium space and from the outside of the hotel.
Innovative use of vertical green systems addresses the challenge of limited horizontal space. The dense urban setting and limited sunlight in the laneway and atrium areas required creative vertical green solutions to maximise greenery without occupying valuable ground space.
We collaborated closely with the architect, engineers, and greensystems contractor to design and implement a solid greenwall system and features at ground level and a tensile system extending up to level 12 on the western facade, offering a unique blend of nature and innovation.
Collaboration with the architect created a dynamic and clear arrival experience through the laneway and a welcoming hotel entrance. A courtyard garden adjacent to the lobby provides outdoor seating and greenery, serving as an oasis for guests and the surrounding urban environment. Integrated lighting enhances the courtyard, seamlessly transitioning the experience from day to night.
Our approach demonstrates how landscape architecture can creatively integrate nature into urban environments, enhancing both the aesthetic and functional aspects of the space.
