A large stormwater network provides a linking spine for wildlife, recreation and display of culture and arts.

Edin Rotokauri is a new development located in the North-Western region of Hamilton, naturally enveloped by hills within a valley near Lake Rotokauri - giving it its name.

The name celebrates the surrounding natural environment which the client is looking to provide access to, emphasising green spaces for the community to enjoy and consider the use of urban agriculture. The client sought Covid-19 Recovery Fast Track Resource Consent for a 296-lot residential development.

The challenging low-lying nature of the site and high-water table was overcome through the use of the extensive stormwater network which enables a recreation path and wildlife corridor. We worked with mana whenua, the client and consultants to develop this stormwater corridor, creating a network of paths, expansive open spaces including opportunities for artwork and cultural expression and spaces for urban agriculture.

Access to the water, eco-forest, greenway corridors via designated cycling and pedestrian links, both within and beyond the community, will be distinctive features to enhance belonging to this unique community.

Within the road network we worked with external consultants and Council to develop a suite of finishes to meet the varying road widths and public and private laneways.
