He is particularly proficient in quantitative measurement of ecosystems (species and their physical habitats) and the changes that activities bring about within them. Modelling relationships and mitigation/offsetting form a large component of his work. Restoration ecology (practice and theory) is a special interest, in particular the re-creation and restoration of wetlands as multi-functional systems.

Experienced in preparation of Assessment of Environmental Effects and other such effects reports, for a variety of proposed activities, from adventure tourism to urban development, power generation and roads. He has presented expert ecological evidence at numerous Council Hearing, Environment Court, EPA Board of Inquiry and ECAN commissioner Hearing.

Coming from an academic background, Dr Keesing has the in-depth theoretical background of community ecology coupled with research experiences, giving a high degree of technical competency.
