29 September 2022
The Outstanding Person Award is based on merit; and recognises an individual practitioner's contributions to the law, theory and practice of resource management.
Boffa Miskell partner and Technical Lead for Urban Design, Rachel de Lambert was awarded the RMLA Outstanding Person Award at the Association’s annual conference in Rotorua. The meritorious award is open to any member of the RMLA who is practicing in a field that is related to resource management.
Rachel was recognised for her “outstanding contribution to theory and practice of landscape architecture, objectivity and independence, valued role as expert witness, lifelong commitment to mentoring others and contribution (with the wider landscape profession) towards Te Tangi a te Manu which is a work of international significance for the profession and wider community”.
Rachel was nominated by Derek Nolan KC, with supporting letters from Judge Laurie Newhook, Bridget Gilbert and Allison Arthur-Young. In his supporting letter Judge Newhook said:
“Rachel de Lambert stands out for me as one of the quintessentially outstanding professionals involved in work before the Environment Court and other environmental adjudicators. I believe she is one of the leading women professionals in the environmental field in this country.”
In her acceptance speech, Rachel said she was surprised and humbled to be recognised by the RMLA in this way.
“I feel lucky to practice in an area that I really love and I feel we get to do meaningful work. But it is a very collaborative practice, and I feel like I stand on the shoulders of many others in what I do; and it’s not so much an individual endeavour. So in that respect I feel the recognition goes to me and to others as well.”
