Implementing a Development Plan that enhances a valued and highly used public space
Caroline Bay is one of the most valued and highly used spaces in Timaru. Our landscape architects in close collaboration with the Timaru District Council has created and implemented a Development Plan to up-date and enhance Caroline Bay.
We were involved in community consultation, concept design, detailed design and observation work for the three stage development. The Development Plan weaves together a complex array of historical features, existing activities and environmental enhancements. The promenades provide direct pedestrian access from the city to the sea and the beach dune boardwalk provides easy access for visitors along the dune planting, with viewing platforms providing excellent views of the Bay. A highlight for many visitors is the World War One War Memorial that has been upgraded as part of this project.
This Memorial further describes the battle locations, roles and fate of Cantabrians. Very positive public and client feedback regarding the outcome of the developments.
