Can you maintain heritage integrity and create an open and inviting entrance?
We have worked with the St John’s College Trust Board over a number of years. In 2005 we carried out the development of a niche wall and litch gate within the historic cemetery area (which won a Silver Award in the Institutional Category of the NZILA Design Awards). In 2008 we developed the library outdoor area in association with the redevelopment of the library building (which won a gold award in the Institutional Category of the NZILA Design Awards).
In 2009 we redeveloped the main entrance to the college. The existing entrance was narrow with high pillars that reduced visibility, making the entry unsafe for the numbers using the entrance. Our designers worked closely with the college to develop a much more open entrance, which is highly visible as the main access to the site. It uses materials that are used within the site, together with signage and lighting.
