Parkins Bay, Wanaka

A multi-disciplinary involvement into resort development.

Parkins Bay is a resort-style development located on the edge of Lake Wanaka. The development includes 42 homesites, 12 apartments, an 18-hole championship golf course and its clubhouse, a lodge, a jetty, areas of ecological restoration and the creation of a public trail network throughout the resort.

Boffa Miskell has been involved since the start of the project in 2012, assisting the developer, Darby Partners, initially through the preparation of a resource study to identify suitable development areas. Subsequently the Boffa Miskell team has provided planning, ecology and landscape assessment advice through the design and consenting stages. This included preparation of the AEE, assessment of landscape and visual effects and preparation of a comprehensive package of environmental compensation measures. This has led to successful consenting of the project at Council and Environment Court level.

Since 2017, Boffa Miskell has worked with Darby Partners on the implementation and construction of the project. We helped the developer work through key challenges, including required design amendments in a sensitive environment and in light of stringent planning provisions.

In addition, we are assisting the developer with a proposal to create a resort zone through the District Plan Review, as well as variations to the consents gained in 2010.

Throughout the design phase of the project, its successful consenting stage and its ongoing implementation, the Boffa Miskell team has been working closely with the developer to implement changes to the project that arose through the detailed planning stages.

Over the years this strong relationship has provided the client with a pathway through the regulatory environment while achieving the overall vision that guided the design of a top-quality, high-country resort project.
