Providing modern and accessible student accommodation
In early 2020, the University of Waikato opened the Silverdale Road Apartments, designed specifically for mature and postgraduate students. The facility includes 53 fully furnished studios set across three separate buildings, situated adjacent to the University’s existing Orchard Park accommodation and a brief walk to the heart of the campus.
The Silverdale Road Apartments offer an independent lifestyle for students that want the security and convenience of living on campus; with this project aligning strongly with the University of Waikato’s ‘Living Campus’ design principle, whereby campus development will provide a rich mixed-use environment for accommodation, social, health, sports and recreational uses.
Boffa Miskell’s Hamilton planning team advised the University of Waikato on planning requirements, prepared the resource consent application for the project and liaised with Hamilton City Council through the consent processing period. In conjunction with the University’s landscape manager, Boffa Miskell also prepared the landscape plan for the site to support the resource consent application.
