Moving towards zero waste and a sustainable district
Boffa Miskell prepared a proposal to assist in the planning phases of the Kimiākau Zero Waste Community Eco-Park as identified in the Frankton Masterplan.
Our client, Wastebusters, specialises in resource recovery (reuse shops, drop-off recycling, business and events recycling), education for sustainability, advocacy and support of waste minimisation in the community. Wastebusters runs two zero-waste hubs, providing real recycling and reuse shops for the communities in Alexandra and Wanaka.
Wakatipu Zero Waste Hub is proposed as Stage 1 for the Eco-Park. The Zero Waste Hub would comprise a resource recovery park featuring a reuse store and recycling depot, plus a zero-waste education and engagement zone.
In Stage 2 of the Eco-Park, the Zero Waste Hub would expand to include additional resource recovery options and zero waste education. It would seamlessly transition into the Community Learning Park, which would be developed through collaboration within the community.
