Although my passion is water of the salty kind, I have an interest in all aspects of ecology and the health of our environment. I have spent the majority of my professional career broadening my expertise by delving into freshwater and wetland health. Over this time, I have gained experience in macroinvertebrate, fish and periphyton ecology and have provided advice and training to clients. I have also carried out environmental monitoring and habitat assessments, including state of the environment and biodiversity monitoring for regional councils.

Research related to my PhD in Marine Science explored the connection between our lobsters' diet preferences and the habitats important for their ongoing protection with the use of marine reserves. I also have experience in underwater acoustics, gained during my master's research which investigated sound production of crustaceans.

I am passionate about understanding and implementing new protocols, procedures and technologies, with the aim of robustly assessing and managing New Zealand’s aquatic environments.
