Kaihoahoa Whenua | Landscape Architect
Pouwhiri | Principal
With more than two decades of experience in Aotearoa New Zealand, China, and Canada, I have worked on new communities, streetscape and park spaces, environmental remediation, and restoration. I have designed civic, commercial, and residential landscapes for both public and private sector clients.
I enjoy collaborating with clients and communities to bring their visions to life in the places and spaces where they live and work. An ongoing fascination for water-sensitive design and large-scale rehabilitation of disturbed landscapes has led me to work on restoring flood and erosion-damaged landscapes and designing wetlands for stormwater management and water quality enhancement. I aim to achieve multi-benefit outcomes that accommodate cultural values and recreational activities within a landscape while allowing room for the regeneration of natural systems and ongoing ecological evolution.
As climate change challenges become increasingly urgent, my focus has shifted towards designing for adaptation, resilience, and a low-carbon future. Currently, I am working on the Ōtakaro Avon River corridor and Brooklands redzone projects, where I have an exciting opportunity to explore design responses to these issues.
