Kaimātai Hauropi | Ecologist

My experience is across a wide range of ecological assessments. I completed my Master of Science degree on the stress physiology of sooty shearwaters and flesh-footed shearwaters. As part of my Master’s, I also developed a novel, non-invasive monitoring technique for fluttering shearwater chicks.
I have since worked on multiple projects surrounding marine, freshwater and terrestrial environments. As a graduate ornithologist, I specialise in avifauna and have experience working on a variety of projects, including penguin and shorebird monitoring, baseline monitoring for proposed wind farms, airports, and wildlife sanctuaries. Some projects have also required the deployment of acoustic recording devices to monitor for the presence of cryptic marshbirds and bats. Coupled with the use of playback systems, I have familiarised myself with the use of relevant systems and software surrounding automatic monitoring.
My work has exposed me to a wide range of projects that have contributed significantly to my knowledge. Additionally, I have a great team to support me with my learning and growth as an ecologist.
