PCNZ Property Award winners are announced
28 June 2024
The annual Awards showcase superior examples of projects in property development and investment across a broad range of sectors and design disciplines, recognising outstanding buildings, developments and refurbishments. Boffa Miskell planners and designers have contributed to several of the award-winning recipients.
The Pā at The University of Waikato’s Hillcrest campus in Hamilton is the 2024 winner of the Education Property Award.
The building was developed through a significant upgrade to the original ‘A Block’ which had been built in the 1960s. By keeping the existing structure but bringing in glulam timber frames – some pieces over 36m long – the team were able to retain the embodied carbon in the structure.
The Pā has been set up as an open space for not only the university students, but the wider community, who played an integral role in the design, too. The project team worked to create a complex that proudly reflects the mana of Waikato-Tainui, the Kīngitanga, and the University. Multiple Iwi groups from across the Waikato contributed to the project. Boffa Miskell planners led the resource consent process.
Boffa Miskell planners and designers were involved in other award-winning projects across the country.
Tuhiraki AgResearch Building at Lincoln University won Awards of Excellence in the both the Education and Sustainability categories.
Two Boffa Miskell projects received Merit awards in the Commercial Office category: 3 Te Kehu Way at Sylvia Park in Auckland, and the Amohia Ake/ACC Building in Hamilton. Te Kehu Way also won an Excellence Award for Sustainability.
Toi Mahara – the Kāpiti District Gallery in Waikanae received Merit Awards in the Heritage & Adaptive Reuse category and the Civic, Health & Arts Property category.
In the Retirement Living and Aged Care category, The Foundation Nathan Residences in Auckland won an Award of Excellence, and Metlifecare Fairway Gardens Retirement Village in Auckland won an Award of Merit.
Hosted by Property Council New Zealand, the annual Property Industry Awards have been celebrating excellence in design and innovation in the built environment for 34 years.
