A new retirement village within an existing golf course setting, blending the edge between aged care and recreation.

Metlifecare approached Boffa Miskell to provide landscape design and visual assessment services to develop a premium quality, integrated, aged care community in East Auckland.

Following a successful consenting phase the acquisition of a neighbouring site created the opportunity to expand the village, allowing for the re-arrangement of a number of apartment buildings and care facilities.

The construction of the site is currently underway with a portion of the initial stages in operation.

The scope was to establish a new premium retirement village and aged care facilities within a green field site subdivided from the eastern end of the existing Pakuranga Golf Club.

With the landscape of the golf course forming a strong backdrop to the village it was clear to re-interpret the golf course language throughout this development. A blurred boundary treatment between the two properties allowed the village to nestle into the setting seamlessly, strengthened with the pedestrian network creating accessible connections throughout.

A wide variety of specimen trees have been used strategically to pull the backdrop of mature vegetation through the streetscape network, placed within communal gardens and wrapping around the perimeter to provide vegetated screening.
