Boffa Miskell, in collaboration with Architectus, led the design development of the masterplan and detailing of the external spaces within the innovation facility. Our role included inputs into site planning of the proposed buildings within the site, coordination with the wider consultant team, and landscape development of the hard and soft landscape of the public and private areas.

The vision was to develop a new workplace and laboratory building with a landscape that responded to the setting.The building design is reminiscent of large farm buildings, and the landscape design response reflects the rural heartland that AgResearch science supports.

The landscape features Whāriki O Te Piharau (weaving paving pattern); rain gardens and stormwater basin; an internal courtyard and an outdoor dining area.

Numerous artworks by Ngāti Kahu artist, Piri Cowie are located throughout the site enriching the experience of this facility. Sculptural works by Ngāi Tahu artists Reihana Parata and Morehu Flutey-Henare and Ngāti Porou artist Riki Manuel also feature in the supporting landscape.
